The electricity that you use from the grid comes from various sources, some are renewable, and others are from traditional generation that emit carbon. Because all that energy flows into a single pool (the grid), it's impossible to know exactly where each electron you use comes from.

However, we do know that for each kWh of electricity (or MJ of gas) you use, a known amount of carbon is emitted into the atmosphere. This factor (amount of carbon per kWh or MJ) is set depending on the state or territory. With the GloGreen energy plan, we offset 100% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with your energy usage on the GloGreen plan by buying and retiring the equivalent number carbon credits. When GloBird Energy started back in 2015, we focused on delivering the best value energy possible, and we are proud of adding a new level of competition making the energy market a fairer place. During this time, we have also been listening to the wants and needs of our customers. There has been a noticeable increase in customers calling for access to greener more sustainable energy plans that are also excellent value. 100% of the carbon emissions associated with GloGreen electrctiy and gas is offset.

Offsetting is a climate action that enables individuals and organizations to compensate for the emissions they cannot avoid, by supporting worthy projects that reduce emissions elsewhere.

The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduced through offsetting are measured in credits or certificates. We purchase, CERs, VERs, VCUs, or ACCUs. These are generated from certified carbon reduction projects. These projects earn one certificate or credit for each metric tonne of GHG emissions they reduce or avoid and are measured in CO2 equivalent (CO2-eq). The certificates are then bought to offset the unavoidable emissions. Only the carbon associated with this energy plan is offset, GloBird do not claim we are a 100% carbon offset business or that other plans are carbon offset. GloBird do not own substantial generation assets. As a retailer we offer various energy plans, most of which are not carbon neutral.

The greenhouse gas emissions are calculated from relevant emissions factors published by the Australian Government. In relation to electrctiy consumption the Scope 2 and 3 emissions factors will be used to calculate the relevant emissions. In relation to gas consumption the scope 1 and 3 emissions factors will be used to calculate relevant emissions.
