Premium Feed-in Tariff (PFiT) scheme ends 1st Nov 2024
Fifteen years ago, back in November 2009, Victoria set up the Premium Feed-in Tariff (PFiT) scheme where households were paid 60 cents for every excess kilowatt hour of energy fed back into the state electricity grid. This was introduced as an incentive to encourage early adopters to install solar systems. The premium Feed-in Tariff (PFiT) scheme was scheduled to run for 15 years, and so it will end in November 2024.
If you were one of those early adopters, your feed in rate will change. You do not need to take any action. Following the expiry of the PFIT and effective from 2nd November 2024 the feed-in tariff rates that will automatically apply to your energy plan are the same as the 2024/25 minimum feed-in tariff rates set by The Essential Services Commission Victoria.
For the financial year 2024/25, the minimum feed-in tariff rate set by the Essential Services Commission are:
Feed-in Tariff | New rates (Excl. GST) |
---|---|
Peak (4pm – 9pm) everyday | $0.084 per kWh |
Shoulder (9pm – 10am) & (2pm-4pm) everyday | $0.041 per kWh |
Off-Peak (10am-2pm) everyday | $0.021 per kWh |
Times quoted above are local time.
The feed-in tariff structure has also changed from a flat rate to a time of use (TOU) rate, refer to the table above. The TOU structure provides customers higher rewards if they can feed back into the grid during times when their energy is needed most to support renewable energy.
